What is Camp Surefire?
Camp Surefire is an overnight camp program specifically designed for children and teens (ages 6-14) with type 1 diabetes.
When is camp?
Camp Surefire 2013 will run from Sunday, June 23rd – Friday, June 28th.
Drop Off Time: Sunday, June 23rd between 2pm-4pm. You may come anytime between 2pm and 4pm to drop off your camper. You will need to sign in with the medical staff, sign waiver forms, and confirm emergency information. You do not need to stay until 4pm, but please note all parents must depart by 4pm! Pick Up Time: Friday, June 28th at 11am. After you sign out your camper (and pack all of their belongings in the car!), please plan to stay for a cookout lunch, wellness fair and camper/counselor recognition at 12noon.
For safety reasons and to minimize confusion, all parents and guardians will be responsible for their children and their insulin starting at 11am on Friday. Please be prompt and plan your schedule accordingly.
Where is camp?
Camp is held at the URI W. Alton Jones campus in West Greenwich, RI.
Do you have a day camp option?
No. We are a residential camp and do not offer a day camp program.
Do you have a program for older teens?
We offer a Leaders-in-Training program for 15-16 year olds. There is a competitive process to apply for the limited number of slots. The LIT’s for 2013 have been selected.
When is the registration deadline?
Completed applications must be received by May 15, 2013. Applications are accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis. In order to ensure your child has a spot at camp, please complete all required forms as soon as possible. *Please note: registration is now closed for 2013. What is the camp fee?
The fee to attend Camp Surefire is $600/camper and $300/First-year LITs. Second-year LITs attend at no cost. Camp fees may be paid online, by check or money order. Checks should be made payable to “Camp Surefire Foundation” and mailed to: Camp Surefire Foundation, 290 Hope Street, Bristol, RI 02809.
What is your refund policy?
Camp fees are non-refundable after June 1, 2013. No refunds are made if a camper leaves camp due to homesickness, late arrival, early departure, illness or inappropriate behavior.
Is Financial Aid available?
Financial aid “camperships” are available for children with diabetes who without assistance would not be able to attend Camp Surefire. The Camp Surefire Foundation determines financial aid using the federal income eligibility guidelines for the National School Lunch Program and on a case-by-case basis. Applications for camperships must be complete by May 15, 2013. *Please note: the deadline for 2013 campership applications has now passed.
