Do you have a day camp option?
In 2021, we hosted our first (and only!) day camp due to COVID-19. In 2024, there will not be a day camp option. Summer camp week will be held from August 19 – August 24, 2024.
What time is camper drop-off?
Medical check-in for campers will be scheduled for Monday morning, August 19, 2024. LITs will be dropped off earlier in order to assist with drop-off.
Who will take care of me at camp?
You will have specific counselors assigned to your cabin. They are there to make sure you are safe and having lots of fun at camp, and will be wearing fanny packs with glucose monitors for you to check your BG at any time. Ali Fox is your Camp Mom for the week and she is always around if there is something that you may need!

Dr. Fox and Nurse Cara are in charge of all of the medical volunteers. Each camper will have at least one person from the Medical Staff assigned to them. That person will keep track of all your BG numbers, your insulin dosing, and any other medications you may need. You will get to know them well and they will take very good care of you all week.

What meals will be provided at camp?
Since Camp Surefire 2024 is an overnight camp, we will be providing breakfast, lunch, dinner and a snack. Please eat breakfast before you get dropped off at camp on Monday morning. Our first meal together will be lunch on Monday.
Who will help me count my carbs?
Robyn is the Camp Dietician and is in charge of working with the camp dining staff and our nutrition volunteers. She makes sure we all know how many carbs are in our meals and what options are available for our friends with any allergies or food restrictions. Robyn and Ali are also really good at finding different options for picky eaters!

Robyn will display a list of food and their carbs at each meal/snack and campers will write down what they want. Campers are welcome to add their own carbs using provided calculators, but a counselor or nurse is always there to check the math and make sure you aren’t trying to eat 10 pieces of pizza!

What should I bring to camp?
We will update our overnight “what to pack” list and be sure all of our campers have the latest list well before it is time to pack for camp. Some items you need to bring include your test kit, water bottle, flashlight, sneakers, hat, sunglasses, towel, swimsuit, raincoat, and sweatshirt/jacket. We find it best to label anything you bring with your initials in case you misplace it or someone else has the same item.

There are also a few things not to pack. Please leave your tablets, Switches, money, food/snacks, and pets at home.

A more detailed packing list will be sent out to all camp families over the summer.

Why can't I bring my cell phone to camp?
We have always had a strict no phone policy at camp for campers and LITs. We have slightly adjusted our policy over the last few years. Counselors and Med Staff will now hold your cell phones (or Dexcom receiver) so you can stay connected to cloud sharing. You will not be allowed to use your phone for any calls or other activities. Also, the cloud sharing will need to be changed while you are at camp. Instead of your parent or guardian receiving the updates, our Medical Staff will be monitoring your numbers during the week.
