cell phone policy

As many of you know, we have always had a strict no cell phone policy at Camp Surefire. In keeping with the changes in technology for T1D, we are allowing campers who use CGMs to bring their phones (and/or receivers) to camp. Counselors and/or Medical Staff will be in charge of holding all camper cell phones. Cloud sharing with parent/guardian phones must be turned off during camp. Cloud sharing will be enabled for the Medical Staff to track campers BGs. Be sure to have your Dexcom user name and password ready for Medical check-in and pack all necessary chargers (labeled with camper name).

Campers will not be allowed to use their cell phones for calls home or for other activities. Please help us enforce this policy and be sure your camper does not bring any other WiFi enabled devices to camp. If devices are found, they will be held in the office for the remainder of camp and the camper may be at risk for being sent home.

The cell phone policy is usually more challenging for the parents than for the campers. We keep everyone so busy at camp that the week flies by!! We understand that it is challenging to be apart for a week – and to have cloud sharing turned off – but we have been doing this for a long time. Phone calls home do not lead to a successful camp experience for anyone. We do really well making sure campers are happy and safe and we help them deal with homesickness as it arises.

During camp week, we will post hundreds of photos (every day!) to our camp Facebook page. It will give everyone at home a glimpse into what we are up to, what fun activities we have done each day, what we are eating, etc.

If you have any questions or concerns before or during camp week, please feel free to call or text (401.474.1606) or email Ali Fox (afox@campsurefire.org).
